Hola

For anyone still out there…

Well I finally have something to write about–more health updates. Got the scar bands taken out. So exciting, isn’t it? Can you stand it? Okay, I’ll cut the sarcasm. Decided to go completely under, which was a great decision. I was pretty uncomf for about 3 days after it. Walked around with a bloody cotton hanging out of my nose was quite attractive. Then the doc took out the spacer that helped prevent rescarring. Now THAT was uncomfortable. Doc had already found a new scar band, and decided to just rip it out right there. More anesthetic wasn’t enough. Didn’t last long. Anyway, now that it’s a couple weeks later, things actually seem pretty good up there. I’m going to have to go back in next week because this scarring seems to form quickly. The doc also sent the tissue to pathology, so I am looking forward to hearing those results. Guess no news is good news, but tissue really is the best way to confirm that it’s all gone…

In travel news, you may have seen some pics from my Ecuador trip in February. We went to celebrate Tim & Marissa’s wedding, two of our close DC friends. Tim and I met studying overseas in college. He and M are from Hawaii, but decided to have a destination wedding in the town where her parents retired, Cuenca, Ecuador. It was one of the best wedding receptions ever. Ginormous salsa band. Meeting people from all over. And the weather was much milder of course. After a few days in Cuenca, we spent a day in Quito, the capital. It was my first time in South America and I can’t believe I was there.

I have to say the best news I’d like to share right now is that I’m going to be an uncle. My brother Matt and his wife Sara are expecting a boy in August. I couldn’t be happier.

    Cris,
Fabulous pictures from Ecuador. My cousin Roberto lives down there and the wife and I love visiting that part of the world. Great tasting foilage down there.

Was also good to hear about the succesful scar band removal. You’ve been through a lot. Like me, you’re a leader and such a good sport.

    Best,

    Crass,

Hey man, I feel your pain. When live keeps dumping on you, you just got to keep on shoveling. Well, unless you become obsolete and they use the carcass of your former self as a building in between two big skyscrapers. Just take the advice that my beloved owner, Mike Mulligan, always gives me when I’m feeling gloomy, “My belly button smells like shit.”

    Yours,
    Steam Shovel
